Account Reconciliation

 
You can teach students to "balance their checkbooks" using Banzai's account reconciliation function, which can be accessed by clicking the Reconcile link which appears on the Advanced Tab. They are presented with a page showing all previously-unreconciled transactions from the selected account. Three figures appear at the top of the screen:

• Banzai: The account balance as recorded in Banzai
• Reconciled: The reconciled account balance
• Unreconciled: The sum of all unreconciled transactions

Students should check the box next to each transaction cleared by their bank until the Reconciled balance displayed matches the balance provided by their bank. When this takes place, the student can click Reconcile to record her work.

 

 

If a student mistakenly marks a transaction reconciled and needs to "unreconcile" it, he can do so by locating the transaction on the transaction page and clicking the account name of the related account entry. Doing so will reveal a checkbox marked Reconciled. Unchecking that box and saving the transaction will undo the entry's reconciliation status.
